Summary of results of 2011 reprints survey

Background

The PCO reprinting policy provides that a reprinting programme will be established each year, in consultation with key users of legislation. These are the results of the eighth annual survey conducted by the PCO.

The survey

The 2011 reprints survey, which closed on Friday 15 July 2011, was provided on the PCO website and could be completed online. The survey was publicised on websites including the New Zealand Legislation website and electronic noticeboards for librarians and the public sector. Emails were sent to people who have expressed an interest in reprints, including the various heads of bench of the Judiciary.

Responses

This year, 43 responses were received, the majority of which were completed on behalf of an organisation or agency by solicitors and librarians.

Results

Fifty Acts and four Statutory Regulations were proposed for reprinting.

In relation to our officialisation schedule, 26 Acts were proposed to be officialised as a priority. Of those 26 titles, ten are already official and the remaining 16 titles will be prioritised and officialised in this financial year.

2011–2012 reprinting programme

The titles selected for hard copy reprints are:

  • Official Information Act 1982
  • Privacy Act 1993
  • Resource Management Act 1991
  • Family Courts Rules 1992

The legislation included in the 2011–2012 reprinting programme has been selected according to the following criteria:

  • recommendations received in the 2011 reprints survey
  • recommendations received in the 2010 reprints survey that were not able to be included in the programme for 2010–2011
  • the number of amendments since the last reprint (if reprinted)
  • the significance of any amendments since the last reprint (if reprinted)
  • any significant amending legislation being drafted by PCO
  • any amending legislation on the current Legislation Programme
  • inclusion in the list of top 200 legislation sellers for the last 12 months to 31 July 2011
  • what's possible given a limited budget
  • what will have the least impact on the PCO's ability to officialise all principal legislation on the New Zealand Legislation website by the end of the 2012/13 financial year.
